The Scoring of Da' Game

There are four ways to score in rugby. A final score of 24-18 would be typical. But slaughters with scores as lopsided as 98-3 happen from time to time.

Try (5 Points)
A try is scored when a player carries the ball over the opposing team's goal line and places the ball on the ground.

Conversion (two points)
A conversion is the kick taken immediately after a team scores a try. The ball must be kicked through the goal posts. Placement of the ball is determined by where the try was scored. If the ball was placed down 15 meters to the left of the posts, the conversion kick will be 15 meters to the left as well. Players are free to improve their kicking angle by moving the ball backwards.

Drop Goal (three points)
A drop goal takes place when the ball is drop kicked through the goal posts. It may be attempted from anywhere in open play.

Penalty Kick or Penalty Goal (three points)
When a severe penalty is committed, the opposing team is awarded a penalty kick. The kick takes place at the point of the infraction. Play is stopped and the opposing team must stay a minimum of ten meters away. Three points are awarded if the ball is kicked through the goal posts.
